calling all theater kids ages 9-15

Forwarded from Kari, via Molly:__________________________
I was just informed today that my summer theatre program might have to be axed. My good friend Molly Dimba and I were teaming up to direct "Percival the Performing Pig" at the Crystal Recreation Center in Crystal, MN. It should be starting next week, but only 3 kids have signed up!!! I need a minimum of 7 more kids to register.

So, I need some help if you can do it.

If you know any theatre kids, aged 9-15 that want to be part of fun show please pass tell them to go to www. crystalconnect. org or call 763-531-0052 for detailed schedule and registration information. I'd be so grateful if you could pass this info to your theatre contacts.

Generally, rehearsals are M-T-H 5:30pm-8:30pm in May. In June same schedule, but Thurs rehearsals are 3:30-6:30. Performances are June 19, 20 at 1pm and 7pm.

It's $48 for residents of the Crystal area and $60 for non-residents.

thoughts for today

--~Nao for the name dropping~--

Last night, highly medicated, met [info]freeimprov, [info]gamerchick, Mark, Klee, Eric, Kevin, Nick at Loring Pasta Bar  for foods before the Jonathan Coulton Show. Yummy, but decided to stick with water for fear of sleepiness. Need to go back when drinking and relaxing are more on the schedule.

Then went to the Varsity Theater around the corner and met [info]beanandwiggin, [info]budsharpe, Shane, Kent and [info]jck there. Stood around chatting until 'round 8, had a little cider, then Paul and Storm took the stage. The pirate song ("Captain's Wife's Lament," dejected arrrrr!), Moon Pies, and love for the disco balls dominated the set.  Some more chatty, pulling out of the sweatiness and going for more drinks. Then Jonathan Coulton with his Scottish Lite-Brite device, Tenori-on, and "First of May" performed on the First of May. (Clicky for video)

I got back to Dave's before the rain started, but just as the lightning flashes were getting intense.
Loverly day, ain't it?

You rarely get angry and it takes a lot to make you angry, however you experience panic, confusion, and helplessness when under pressure or stress. People generally perceive you as distant and reserved, and you do not usually reach out to others. You prefer facts over fantasy and are more interested in what is happening in the real world. You see no need for pretense or manipulation when dealing with others and are therefore candid, frank and sincere. People find it relatively easy to relate to you, however you generally see others as selfish, devious, and sometimes potentially dangerous. You take your time when making decisions and will deliberate on all the possible consequences and alternatives.

state of me

Taking apart my bedroom arrangement. I can no longer pretend to sleep in a bunk bed, or crunch up on a couch, or crash with friends every night. Single bunk bed mattress is now on floor for tonight's sleep, other parts intact. Tomorrow will come out the wrench to take apart the bunk, and move out the couch, so maybe I can squeeze my ginormous waterbed frame and futon mattress into this tiny room. I think I'll be happier then.

In other news, applied at General Mills today.

Upcoming events:
  • Paul and Storm/Jonathan Coulton show Thursday night, Loring Pasta Bar beforehand (up for that, [info]beanandwiggin ?).
  • Merlin's Rest breakfast 10:30am Sunday, Heart of the Beast Mayday parade at 1pm, the Dubliner for my friend (David Wal)Dorf's birthday that night.
Until then, I plan on ingesting large amounts of cold medication, soup and fruit juice in hopes of beating this thing.

sirens

Is it a tornado warning? It is not the first Wednesday of the month.

I saw In Brugges last night, The Forbidden Kingdom Tuesday night. Black comedy in the former, with plenty of pathos and irony and caring about the characters to balance that out.  FK was described as a mishmash of various films on Ebert and Roeper, which I agree with. Neverending Story, Karate Kid, Wizard of Oz, but with Jet Li and Jackie Chan fighting each other, then fighting side-by-side, to balance out the sappiness. Not a heavy masculine flick, because there's the white witch and the Sparrow to keep the feminine intact.

Sunday night was...

Last night's Reverend Horton Heat show was satisfying. There were a few disappointments beforehand. First Jens caught some sort of stomach virus that caused him to vomit all day so he decided not to attend. I picked up tickets from him and brought them to Dave's instead, since he's musically-oriented, though not very familiar with the Rev. He listened to a few songs beforehand to become more tuned in.

The billing was Backyard Tire Fire, Nashville Pussy, and the Reverend.  Then when we got there, I liked the first band, mainly because they had a brass section (you know "Lemons" is my favorite Roger Clyne song for that reason). Then the second band was two brothers on bass and guitar, with a friend on drums, who introduced themselves as Backyard Tire Fire. Disappointing that we missed out on the Pussy. I did like the Warren Zevon cover though. I had to buy the CD from the first group, Chooglin'. I'll let you know if I like them as much recorded as I did on stage.

JIMBO and the Rev were joined by a new drummer, Paulie Simmons. Looked like Tom Petty, name cross between Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley. I was hesitant to cheer for him at first, but by the end of the night he won me over.  The high point, besides "Big Red Rocket of Love" during the encore, was the chronological series of covers they did, starting with "Greensleeves," continuing through Bill Haley, Black Sabbath, and Nirvana! AWESOME! Paulie sang "Paranoid," but the Rev himself sang "In Bloom." The crowd's reaction was beautiful! No more high heeled boots to shows though. Toes still feel curled in on themselves.

physical state of being

I am proud of my ability to support, to be the best audience/critic if necessary.  I've been attending Open Mics out in Hudson Wisconsin for a while, and even if I'm not willing to commit to performing myself.  Ever since Rocky Horror days, I've been comfortable shouting from the audience, screaming when appropriate, but I don't like being looked at, myself.

Last night, we went to the Blue Fox on Lexington, with new friends Chalice (Kat and Todd). From the minute we walked in, I started recognizing types of people I know from college, from hanging out with Nikki, from past experiences.  I think my favorite moment was the "Close My Eyes Forever" Ozzy Osbourne/Lita Ford duet, performed by...local folks who reminded me of Matt Pinfield from MTV, the blond Cher dressed in Axl Rose do-rag and black jeans and T-shirt, the asshole Steve from the remake of Dawn of the Dead on drums, [info]adamlazlo  in his long haired glory on bass, and some dread-locked guitar virtuoso, hiding behind his hair, singing through the locks, doing the honors there.

Unfortunately, with the sore throat, when I tried to scream in appreciation, it came out a squeak. It felt like just fatigue and leftover dehydration most of yesterday, and the anti-congestion pills helped a lot, but today it's a full-blown cold. Chest hurts, coughing hurts, bones ache. I just wanna stay in bed and eat soup. I bought banana bread with chocolate chips from Jensen's, the local food market. Soup, grape juice, and bananas for later. Part of it might be the inappropriate clothing I've been wearing through this soupy weather. Non-waterproof shoes, and a light jacket are not enough. Shortie socks are a bad idea when it's this wet out. Bulking up, then heading back to Minneapolis, where I have access to a DVD player, and some comfort. Wanted to go to [info]wyngarde's movie night, but probably not a good idea, especially if I'm contagious. Dammit.
